Hazrat Umar RadiAllahu Anhu reported that Rasoolullah SallAllahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said to me, ‘What will be your condition then when you will be in a grave which is 4 yards in length and when you will see Munkar and Nakeer?’
I said, ‘Ya Rasool’Allah SallAllahu Alaihi Wa Sallam! Who are Munkar and Nakeer?’
He SallAllahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, ‘They are the Angels who come into the grave to test you. They dig through the ground with their teeth and walk in their hair. Their voices are like loud strikes of lightning and their eyes are like lightning, which steals away the vision. They will have with them a rod and if all the people of Mina have to get together they will not be able to lift it, but they lift it as easily as I lift this ‘Asaa’ (Staff) of mine. They will question you (test you) and if you are baffled when answering the questions (i.e. if you fail to answer), then they will strike you with that rod and you will turn to ash.’
I said, ‘Ya Rasool’Allah SallAllahu Alaihi Wa Sallam! Will I remain in my current condition, in other words with Imaan?’
So He SallAllahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said, ‘Yes.’
So I said, ‘Then (in that case) I will be sufficient for them.’
